Mayor Michael Hancock delivered his annual State of the City address yesterday on the plaza outside Denver International Airport. "Opportunity is the right of everyone," he told the crowd. "Progress doesn't have to leave anyone behind — it should bring everyone along."
Hancock's speech touched on a number of controversial issues in this city, including homelessness — but protesters who came to the event with signs were told to put them away and get a protest permit.
There were no such restrictions back at the Denver City & County Building, where Denver Homeless Out Loud and other activist groups delivered the People's State of the City — complete with plenty of protest signs.
Photographer Brandon Marshall covered both events; see his slideshow on the two States of the City here.
