Tony Shawcross, a 2007 Westword MasterMind awardee, and Denver Open Media have good reason to celebrate. Two years of cracking open the doors of media production to the community by providing instruction, video equipment and local programming on a shoestring is quite a feat whenever and wherever it happens. But when major banks are tanking and money is tighter than ever, it's a miracle that shouldn't be ignored. That's why they'll joyfully kick out the jams at tonight's Second Year Anniversary Bash at DOM Studios, 700 Kalamath Street.
As they often do when they throw a party, the honchos at DOM will offer eclectic entertainment, including a dorkbot electronic media performance, music from Milton Melvin Croissant III and Cacheflower, and random short-film screenings, as well as food and drink. But there will also be an interactive element to the evening. DOM invites public participation in a CD swap. Mix and burn your own CD and make ten to twenty copies to trade. At the end of the night, you'll have a whole pile of new mixes to take home with you for further exploration.
