Over the years, though, Stranahan's has mixed it up every so often and released special bottles from the one-off, one-barrel Snowflake series, selling the very small run only at the distillery. And even after master distiller Jake Norris left earlier this year, the team vowed to continue the practice.
And tomorrow, Stranahan's will release the tenth selection in the series, when Conundrum Peak Snowflake goes on sale at 10 a.m.
Past Snowflake series whiskeys have been aged in a variety of barrels, including port and Cabernet; Conundrum Peak spent time in white oak vessels that once held Syrah. Therefore, Stranahan's announcement promises, you can expect the spirit to be "deep red in color with an oaky, caramel-vanilla nose." Tasting notes include black currant, caramel, rose hips and aged leather.
Each bottle rings in at $99, and Stranahan's is enforcing a two-bottle-per-person limit -- so if the crowds that lined up for past releases are any indication, you'll want to get to the distillery at 200 South Kalamath before the doors open if you really want to get your hands on the goods.
