May is National Burger Month (unofficially) -- as if you needed an excuse to head over to one of the many notable purveyors of beef in this town.

Here are a couple of good deals at two of our favorite spots:

Juicy Burgers & Dogs, 6830 South Yosemite Street in Englewood -- our pick for Best Burger in 2012 -- is featuring the Pastrami & Swiss Burger (a customer favorite) for only $7.02. The burger comes with mustard and sauerkraut and is served on a pumpernickel bun from Breadworks Bakery in Boulder.

And every Tuesday through Friday during lunch service at Highland Tap & Burger, 2219 West 32nd Avenue -- which earned Best Fancy Burger this year -- you can get a select, local craft beer and a burger for just $10. This month's featured beer is Ranger IPA from New Belgium. Coincidentally, Highland also gets its buns from Breadworks, which are all made with 100 percent organic flour.

For information on dozens of culinary events around town, visit our online Food & Drink listings -- and if you have information for a culinary event you'd like included in our online calendar, send it to cafe@westword.com.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
