Taxi, 3455 Ringsby Court, is hosting a City Spirit Cafe reunion tonight from 7 to 10 p.m. The one-night party will feature the bar and booths from the original City Spirit -- a popular hangout for artists and other hipsters in LoDo that closed in 1997.

And fans of the place plan to be out in force. As one writes:

I used to eat lunch there every Friday, from about 1994 until City Spirit closed. It's where I first met Tracy, Susan, Mickey, David Zimmer, Jeff Ball, Doug Seaman and more. I did all the signage for the infamous fashion shows and my youngest daughter sometimes did homework at the bar. I'm bringing a cherry pie and a Denver County Fair Blue Ribbon winning chocolate cake to the reunion.

DJ K-Nee will provide spins, and Jux County is rumored to be playing a set to close out the evening. Admission is free, but drinks and revived City Spirit snacks are not, so attendees are encouraged to bring cash. Go to the Facebook event page for more information.

Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
