Misfit Snack Bar Brings Its Burger and More Back to Middleman

Chef Bo Porytko, who also owns Molotov, closed the concept in May in hopes of moving it into its own space...but now it's back on Colfax.

Just days before two of our favorite places to get a burger on East Colfax Avenue, Steve's Snappin' Dogs and Fox Run Cafe, are set to close, another one of the best burgers in town has returned to the neighborhood.

"WE’RE BACK BABY!!!! After some soul searching (and lots of actual searching) looking for a new location, we decided we missed you all too much and thought it was high time to return home to the space we love in the @middlemanco kitchen. Come visit us and we promise you’ll fall right back in love," reads an October 16 Instagram post from Misfit Snack Bar and its owner, chef Bo Porytko.

In 2018, adventurous eaters in Denver mourned the loss of Rebel, a boundary-pushing RiNo restaurant created by Porytko and Dan Lasiy that shuttered after a three-year run.

Just over a year later, Porytko returned to the scene with a new venture, launching Misfit Snack Bar from the kitchen inside Middleman, at 3401 East Colfax Avenue. During its run, it racked up several Best of Denver awards, including Best Curbside Pickup for Misfits in 2020 as it navigated through the pandemic, Best Menu That's Full of Surprises in 2022 and Best Bar Snacks in 2023.

Last year was a big one for Porytko, who was named a James Beard semifinalist in the Emerging Chef category and opened a second eatery, Molotov Kitschen + Cocktails, our 2024 pick for Best New Restaurant.

This year, Porytko and his team, which includes chef de cuisine Rico Carbajal, had hoped to move Misfit into its own dedicated space. After Misfit moved out of Middleman at the end of May, the bar kicked off its plan to host rotating chefs and concepts in its kitchen, but five months later, Misfit is back.

That means that Porytko's My Fucking Burger is back, too, along with the menu's other staple item, chips (confit-smashed fingerling potatoes) and a rotating dip.

Misfit's food has long been some of the most creative in town, and we're looking forward to digging back in. Items on its current menu include a kimchi croquette with Spam-whipped aioli and spicy furikake; samosa-stuffed potato skins; buffalo chicken terrine nuggets with blue cheese mousse; crab cake okonomiyaki with green goddess dressing, egg yolk jam and Old Bay furikake; a butternut squash tamale; and a fried bologna sandwich.

Welcome back.
