Support the independent voice of Denver and help keep the future of Westword free.

Today's a good day to brush up on your complimentary colors: You can help support the Red Cross or learn to cook with a little of the green. Or both.

The District Bistro is holding a "Friendsraiser" for the Red Cross from 6 to 8 p.m. today. As guests mingle and make new friends, 25 percent of proceeds from their food and drink purchases will be donated to the American Red Cross. Contact the restaurant at 303-813-6688 for more information.

In celebration of the newly released Cannabis Kitchen Cookbook by Robyn Lawrence, the Highland City Club will serve up lunch and a cannabis-infused recipe featured in the book. Robyn Lawrence, Donna Shields and Jane West will be on hand to teach participants some tips and tricks for cooking with cannabis. Tickets to the event, which runs from noon to 1:30 p.m., are $31.35, and can be purchased here

For more Food & Drink events, go to our online calendar. If you know of an event that should be included in that calendar, send information to cafe@westword.com. And watch for our big Halloween events calendar coming this week.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
