Marriese "Mo" Jones has been putting in plenty of sweat equity at the little shack that once housed Country Time Barbecue at 2504 West Hampden Avenue, and the results have finally paid off. On Saturday, Jones opened Anointed BBQ & Soul Food to the neighborhood, serving Florida-style barbecue along with a slew of Southern specialties.

Anointed is a take-out-only joint, with a few chairs inside where customers can wait for orders and a couple of benches outside.  Bring cash for now (there's no credit-card scanner) and choose from a daily selection of ribs, rib tips, brisket, chicken or pork shoulder from the smoker, as well as fried chicken, whiting and catfish. Sides range from ham-studded collard greens to black-eyed peas to fried green tomatoes. And a meal wouldn't be complete without homemade peach cobbler or banana pudding.

Call ahead to 303-781-5757 to find out what's on the menu board before heading over. Anointed is open from 11 a.m to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, with late-night hours on Friday and Saturday.

Jones, founder and chef of Anointed, is also the founder and CEO of Hedges and Highways Outreach Ministries, which provides clothing, food, toiletries and other assistance to families and individuals struggling with homelessness.
