Reel Social Club Announces Inaugural Shorts Fest May 6-7 at the Sie

The Aspen Shortsfest won't end until April 10, but the Denver Film Society just announced that the inaugural RSC Shorts Fest will debut at  the Sie FilmCenter in May. It's the first foray into curated film programming by the DFS's Reel Social Club, which caters to young professionals interested not just in film but also fun social events, like the yearly Summer Scream party at Lakeside.
"We are thrilled to launch this new festival for our audiences," says Denver Film Society Programmer Matthew Campbell. "The short format allows for audiences to discover new and exciting work from the next wave of creative content makers. The RSC Shorts Fest presented by LivWell will provide a fun, social and thought-provoking weekend for those seeking cutting-edge filmmaking in a variety of forms."
The short Shorts Fest will fill two days with six tightly curated packages of tiny cinema: Opening Night kicks things off with seven diverse examples of the format at its best; the Music Video Mixtape is a popular moveover from the Denver Film Festival that offers the best in contemporary music videos; Afternoon is a Saturday matinee of tales that may not end up as sunny as hoped; Collective: Unconscious unites five up-and-coming filmmakers who joined creative forces to adapt each other’s dreams; the fest’s Closing Night package is nine stories joined by the theme of “technology”; and a special Late Night package features the best in dark, horrific and downright outlandish shorts.
Presenting this first festival is LivWell, one of Colorado’s largest marijuana dispensary chains, which indicates the kind of audience this fest is going after: casual, open-minded individuals looking for a fun and creative good time with movies — with or without the aid of MJ. LivWell will also be presenting the Short Fest’s Liquid Brunch on May 7, when festival attendees can socialize and lubricate their minds and bodies for a full day and night of short film magic.
The debut RSC Shorts Fest takes place Friday, May 6, and Saturday, May 7, at the Sie FilmCenter, 2510 East Colfax Avenue. All-access passes are just $25 for RSC members, $30 for DFS members and $40 for non-members. The pass includes all shorts packages, Opening Night happy hour and brunch on Saturday morning.
