Untitled #68 (Nomad) at Denver Art Museum (Friday, $10) This monthly series always offers something cool and the latest edition doesn't disappoint. The Oh Heck Yeah arcade will be on hand to accompany knot-tying lessons, teepee construction and tips on urban hunting and gathering. Don't forget you have access to the entire museum as well, so live it up and check out some of the artwork.
Brian Lebel's Old West Show at Denver Mart (Friday-Sunday $5) This year marks the Old West Show's 25th anniversary. From guns to jewelry and spurs to bits, this rendezvous has all the old west memorabilia you could think of. Chit-chat with one of the show's 200 vendors and collectors, and who knows, you might walk out with a new hobby. Scramble Campbell's 3D Art Experience at Red Rocks (Friday-Sunday, free) Keith "Scramble" Campbell is a bit of a staple at concerts in Colorado. You've probably seen him grooving to the music while letting his paintbrush go wild to the sounds of everything from the Colorado Symphony to Snoop Dogg. The Red Rocks Visitors Center has offered up space to display a great deal of his work from over the years, and it's totally free. Even when a concert isn't going on Red Rocks is still a pretty magical place to visit. Roll Denver at EXDO (Friday, free-$5) Big hair, neon, pop music and roller skates will be taking over EXDO tonight for an all-out 80s roll party. Get there before 10 p.m. and skip the $5 cover. Also, they're now offering karaoke to make the party especially silly.F.E.T.C.H Dock Dogs at Canine Rehabilitation & Conditioning Group (Saturday, free) Dogs are the coolest, by far. They're cute, they're funny and today see what great athletes they can be too. This event aims to raise awareness and support Denver's Maxfund Animal Rescue Shelter, by throwing a giant carnival with fun for everyone. The event is free, but adopting a dog is commitment for life, which you probably won't be able to resist.
Renaissance & Remembrance: A Musical Celebration of Black History at Blair-Caldwell Library (Saturday, free) It's no secret African-American culture has been a huge influence on American music. Today at the Blair-Caldwell Library, performers like Stephanie Ann Ball and Michael Tilley will take you on a journey through spirituals, opera and jazz to showcase the lasting impact of black culture on music.
Cherry Blossom Festival at Sakura Square (Saturday-Sunday, free) Last week we celebrated Greek culture, this weekend we jump over a continent and celebrate Japanese culture. For 42 years Denver has taken part in celebrating the cultures contribution to dancing, martial arts and drumming. Since it's free to attend, bring a couple bucks for the teriyaki and sake.
South Platte RiverFest at Confluence Park (Saturday-Sunday, free) Once they found gold at what is now Confluence Park, Denver was founded. Pay homage to our fine city and check out RiverFest this weekend. The free event includes stand-up paddle boat lessons, water activities and music. There will also be an overflow of local beer, because no trip to the river is complete without beer.Chekhov on Santa Fe Drive at Skylite Station (Sunday, free) Check out this open rehearsal performance of some of the best scenes from Chekhov, Ibsen and Strindberg plays. Arrive early to take advantage of the food and cash bar.
Propaganda! at Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret (Sudnday,free) Comedy shows are fun, but it can get a little pricey. However, the laughs are tonight are free and top notch. Joining your host Matt Monroe will be national comedian Forrest Shaw with an array of local joke makers to close out your weekend before you get the dreaded case of the Monday's.
