Some of us are lucky enough to get a short work week, thanks to Martin Luther King Day. Put that free time to good use by attending one of the MLK events in the metro area today. The rest of the week you can talk about illegal beer, pop some kickflips and party hearty — all for free. Drop us a comment if you know of any bargains we missed for this list, and see the Westword calendar for more events.

Greg Casey Beer Talk: Pre-Prohibition Beer History
at Call to Arms Brewing Company
6 p.m. Wednesday, free
There's a good chance if alcohol had not been banned in 1920, we might not be enjoying the same American-style beer today. Greg Casey of Casey Brewing and Blending and Brewing Science & System Solutions will pour out a history lesson about how the bootleggers laid a foundation for craft brews as we know them today. Whether you like history, beer or both, the discussion should be satisfying.

Jay and Roger Play Tony Hawk
at
The Deer Pile
8 p.m. Wednesday, free

If you grew up in the early 2000s, you may already be an expert PlayStation skateboarder thanks to the Birdman, Tony Hawk. The dudes behind the Videogames comedy series sure learned their stuff from Hawk, and tonight the jokes and Japan airs will dominate the night. Flip out with comics like Allison Rose, Harris Alterman, Steve Vanderploeg and more while they go thumb to thumb on career mode for the glory. A true expert can beat the game in thirty minutes; let's see if these radical joystickers can, too. The Fine Gentleman's Club will perform following the show as an extra bonus.

The WhiteOut
at The GlitterDome Events Center
8:30 p.m. Thursday, free
Thank god it's Thursday, because it's time to let loose and party at the WhiteOut at the GlitterDome. Your senses will be on overload while drinking revitalizing kombucha, dancing under laser lights having your mind blown by performance art. Erothyme and YuYu and many more will provide the live soundtrack while artists blow glass, live paint and offer all kinds of impressive performances. There will even be a healing center to align your chakras and send you into the weekend riding a wave of positivity.
