Denver chef Nick Shankland, whom we first met when he was helming the kitchen at Hideaway Kitchen + Bar in Genesee, now has his own mobile smokehouse, called Gypsy Bar-B-Que. Rather than raising money for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts by selling food, he's raising money so he can take his rig to Houston and serve free food to those in need. Shankland started a GoFundMe campaign over the weekend to drum up $5,000 to serve 1,000 pounds of barbecue at the end of the month in Houston and the surrounding areas affected by flooding. Texas burger bar Hopdoddy is pooling resources from all of its restaurants for Goodnight for a Good Cause, the company's existing charity fundraiser that changes each month. For September, the beneficiary will be the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. One dollar of every Goodnight/Good Cause burger ($8.25 to $9.25 each) will be donated, along with money Hoppdoddy raised on Tuesday, September 5 in conjunction with Tito's Handmade Vodka.

Texas steakhouse Perry's is offering a special three-course dinner from now until the end of September for $45 per person, $5 of which will be donated to the hurricane relief fund set up by Houston Texans football player J.J. Zoës Kitchen got its start in Texas and is focusing on helping victims of the hurricane recover by accepting donations to the American Red Cross at checkout. The restaurant will donate all profits for the day to the American Red Cross for Texas flood relief. Several restaurants in the uptown neighborhood — bounded by 17th Avenue,Broadway, 20th Avenue and Park Avenue — are teaming up to host the Uptown Neighbors Help After Harvey Day on Wednesday, September 6. Ace Eat Serve, Beast + Bottle, Coperta, Olive & Finch, Park & Co., Steuben's Uptown, and Tony P's will all donate 15 percent of today's sales to GlobalGiving's Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

RiNo's urban winery and its sister taproom at Stanley Marketplace will donate 100 percent of sales on Wednesday, September 6, and every Wednesday through the end of September, to Rockport-Fulton’s Hurricane Harvey Recovery Fund. Rockport-Fulton is a small community on the Gulf Coast near Houston that was hit hard by the hurricane and resulting flooding.

On Thursday, September 7, from 5 to 7 p.m., Avanti will host Campari America for an Aperol spritz happy hour. The Campari team will be buying a spritz for anyone interested, and will donate $7 for each one served, along with $1 for every adult beverage sold, to the United States Bartenders Guild foundation's Hurricane Harvey Fund. "The Bartender Emergency Assistance Program at the USBG National Charity Foundation is set up to help those in our industry affected by the storm in Houston through the #HurricaneHarveyFund," the USBG states. "The BEAP is set up to provide direct financial relief to bartenders with an emergency medical or catastrophic need." The Guild hopes to raise $25,000 by the end of October to help industry members in the Houston area. If you can't make it for happy hour at Avanti, the guild is also accepting donations on its website.
