Untitled #53 (Aftermath) at the Denver Art Museum (Friday, $10) The Denver Art Museum's Untitled series always brings an interesting lineup of entertainment to the museum. From a talk by photographer Laura Letinsky to a Buntport Theater performance, a musical offering from Paper Bird's Esme Patterson, art tours, hot chocolate and tunes from DJ Jonny, tonight's installment -- dedicated to the theme "Aftermath" -- will have something for everyone.Ladysaurus at the Deer Pile (Friday, $10 suggested donation) A female-oriented battle of the bands (more like battle of the solo artists) will commence tonight with performances by Laura Goldhamer, Brittany Williams and Betsy Lay. Post-show, the audience will vote on a winner to move onto the next round and possibly compete in the Ultimate Ladysaurus Championship at the end of the year. But all three of these acts sounds like winners; hear for yourself.
Atom the Amazing Zombie Killer at the Denver Art Society (Friday, free) Tonight the Denver Art Society will screen local camp thriller Atom the Amazing Zombie Killer -- for free -- at an evening that also features appearances by the cast and crew as well as Lloyd Kaufman of the Troma films. The film follows the story of Atom, a bowling aficionado and -- you guessed it -- zombie killer. The evening -- filled with bowling and blood -- promises to be a killer, too.
Art of Winter at Various Locations (Friday, free) This snow-inspired art extravaganza opens tonight with exhibitions including a Colorado Ski and Snowboard Makers showcase at Row 14 Bistro and Wine Bar, Upcycled Ski & Snowboard art galleries downtown, and more. Steers and Statue at the Brown Palace (Friday, free) Even if you're too broke to attend the National Western Stock Show, you can see the NWSS's Grand Champion Steer at one of the fanciest places in town today. The steer will parade through afternoon tea at the swanky hotel, where you can even get your photo taken with it. No bull. RISE at 1919 Gallery (Saturday, $5) Don't want the party to end when the bars close at 2 a.m. on Saturday morning? It doesn't have to. This after-hours bash begins at 2 a.m., with house music from Chicago's Studio Casual and producer Alex D. Wolf. Make your Friday fun last well into Saturday.Bad Shadow Affair at Lost Lake (Saturday, free) The Bad Shadow Affair is back for the first time in 2013, bringing with it another impeccable lineup of poetry readings. This evening's performers include Michelle Naka Pierce, Lawrence Giffin, Nick Gulig and Dan Beachy-Quick, who will all be at the bar reading from their work. Drink it all in.
Postscript Symposium at the MCA Denver (Sunday, $5) The MCA will present two art-related lectures and performances today featuring artists from its Postscript exhibition, each for only $5. The first features James Hoff discussing viral language, followed by a performance by Will Holder from his journal F.R.DAVID. The second is a series of three talks: Craig Dworkin on conceptual art, Seth Kim-Cohen on other people's styles, and Nick Thurston on publishing and contemporary art. Buy tickets in advance for these special presentations; even if you attend both, you'll only spend ten bucks.Vinyl O Vinyl Record Swap at the Deer Pile (Sunday, free) Dust off your vinyl and bring it to the Deer Pile's Sunday record swap. It's a great place to trade (or buy) rare record finds as well as art, books and zines -- and there's no admission fee to get in the door. Simply show up, browse what's sure to be an eclectic collection from Growler Records, and then go home and listen to your new/old treasures.
