Kobe An Shabu Shabu opened in July after an extensive overhaul to the location occupied decades ago by neighborhood favorite Little Pepina's. Kobe An's menu features only two entrees: shabu shabu, which the owners call a Japanese version of fondue, and sukiyaki, a one-pot meal of vegetables, beef and noodles served with a raw egg.

Our photographer captured the minimalist beauty of the restaurant on a recent afternoon just before dinner service.

Kobe An Shabu Shabu offers three tiers of thin-sliced ribeye steak for the shabu shabu and sukiyaki: generic USDA Choice, all-natural beef from Aspen Ridge, and American Kobe from Snake River Farms. The full bar features Japanese whiskey, hot or cold sake, and a range of local and Japanese beers.

Kobe An Shabu Shabu is open from 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday, and from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
