No. 3: The Jack Broughton at Black Eye Coffee
In the early days of bare-knuckle boxing, English pugilist Jack Broughton bashed his way to an undefeated record in the ring. Inspired by his strength and skill, the kitchen at the Capitol Hill branch of Black Eye Coffee came up with a breakfast sandwich with the brawn to carry Broughton's name.

The breakfast stack sports just about everything that's good in a Denver morning meal. A sturdy brioche bun supports the weight of a thick hash-brown patty, a slab of sausage, a few curls of bacon and a glistening, wobbly poached egg. And while Broughton himself never set foot on American soil, his namesake sandwich definitely packs a Rocky Mountain punch. The sausage patty is no ordinary Jimmy Dean wannabe, but instead hails from Western Daughters Butcher Shoppe, which adds a dose of green chiles to the pork.

If that's not enough, a smear of house-made sriracha ketchup makes sure that the Jack Broughton delivers a knockout blow. You can try to grapple this one with your bare hands, but better to bring a knife and fork to the fight.

This second Black Eye courts the morning crowd with plush booths where guests linger over coffee while bathing in the glow of their computer screens. But grab a seat at the coffee bar and set aside your laptop or smart phone for a few minutes so you can ponder the sandwich's structural beauty and dig in without distraction — that is, if you want to have a puncher's chance against big Jack Broughton.
