This weekend one Denver Chef will be crowned Wing King, ruler of all that is crispy, hot and messy, during the 2nd Annual Wings & Whiskey Competition at Ace. Besides appointing a new culinary king, this weekend is packed with other tasty, although maybe less prestigious events. Friday, June 5
Today we pay homage to that tastiest of treats, the doughnut. For National Donut Day, LaMar's is teaming up with the Salvation Army and celebrating by giving any customer at any of its locations a free handmade gourmet doughnut — no purchase necessary. Get light and bright at Guard and Grace's Rose and Whimsical Whites patio party. The event, which runs from 4 to 6:30 p.m. today, will feature light bites paired with pink and white wines — and suggested attire is whimsical pink-and-white wear. Experience a night in Spain at Tapas D'Jerez tonight with Spanish food, tapas, wine, music and dancing. Flamenco Guitarist Jose Valle "Chuscales" and singer Kina Mendez from Jerez de la Frontera will provide music and there will also be flamenco dancers. There will be two one hour shows starting 6 and 8 p.m. Each show has a $10 cover per couple which will be added to your bill. The new Westminster Panera Bread bakery-cafe at 14415 Delaware Street in Westminster, will hold its grand opening celebration beginning at 6:00 a.m. today. The first 500 guests will receive a free Panera coffee tumbler with complimentary brewed coffee refills through July 3rd.

Colorado Proud’s “Choose Colorado Pop-Up Picnics” will be popping up at the Aurora Kids Spree today. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Aurora Municipal Center. The event will feature food, crafts, booths, vendors, pony rides, live performances, face painting and much more. For more information click here.
Left Hand Brewing will hold Culture Jam, from 5 to 10 p.m. today. This world-music festival will feature the musical talents of 2014 Grammy Award Winning Latin rock group La Santa Cecilia, Afro-Fusion with Paa Kow, salsa from Quemando, and much more. There will also be local food and beer to keep your spirits high and your fuel your dancing. Tickets for the jam fest are $12; get your's here. Proceeds will benefit Himalaya Health Care, Intercambio Uniting Communities and Left Hand Brewing Foundation.
Starting today the Le Jardin Secret Market will be back in Larimer Square for the summer. The French-inspired market will take place every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Bistro Vendome courtyard, where shoppers will be able to browse a selection of local goods from vendors including Grateful Bread Company, Western Daughters Butcher Shoppe and the Truffle Cheese Shop, all while sipping mimosas. Top chefs from Euclid Hall, Bonanno Group, Bistro Vendome, Metropolitan State University culinary students, and many more will also be demonstrating some favorite culinary techniques. Get ready to feel the burn, and the buzz at the 2nd Annual Wings & Whiskey today at Ace. Eight of Denver's top chefs will be slinging wings and vying for the title of Denver's Wing King. Chefs from Central Bistro, Big Red F, Highland Tap and Burger, Osage Cafe, Marco's Coal Fired Pizza, Lou's Food Bar, Acorn, Ace and more will be competing for the title. Spectators can enjoy tastes of wings in the hunt for the crown, additional food from Ace, whiskey drinks, beer from Great Divide, a wing eating contest, live music by the Whiskey Folk and more. At the end of the day the a Wing King will be crowned for both People's Choice and Judge's Choice. Tickets to the event, which kicks off at 4 p.m., are $45; get yours here. A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit The Denver Housing Authority's Youth Culinary Academy.
